Final Fantasy VII Revelation Just Confirmed the Biggest Map in Series History

Square Enix dropped a new fact sheet on Final Fantasy VII Revelation, and the detail blowing up right now is the map size: it's going to be the biggest in the entire franchise, bigger even than Rebirth, which was already massive. For reference, Rebirth took around 50 hours just for the main story and over 100 if you were doing everything — so you can imagine the scale they're promising here. The way you explore is changing too. After the ending of Rebirth players unlock the Highwind, and now it becomes the center of movement: you can fly freely over the planet and use a new parachute system to land wherever you want. Naoki Hamaguchi, the game's director, explained that fast travel works in two phases — first the jump from the Highwind with the parachute open, where visual markers show up pointing to objectives and mini-games on the ground, and then, once you're closer to the surface, those indicators disappear and you pick your landing spot manually. He was pretty direct about it, saying that since the world is bigger than Rebirth's, it was essential to give players enough guidance so nobody gets lost along the way. They also confirmed a final battle that decides the fate of the planet and an "evolved" combat system, with more freedom and strategic depth — though no details yet. Release is planned for spring 2027 (northern hemisphere spring, so probably March to May). No map images yet, just the text description. But given the remake trilogy's track record, I doubt it'll take long before something leaks ahead of the full official reveal.
