Is This the Assassin's Creed Remake Nobody Saw Coming?

Ubisoft hasn't even shipped Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced yet, due July 9, 2026, but the leaker community is already pointing to what comes next — and the name gaining traction is one of the most significant in the entire franchise. During the latest episode of the Insider Gaming podcast, editor-in-chief Tom Henderson revealed that another Assassin's Creed remake is currently in development, focused on one of the series' earliest entries. TheGamer The claim gained further weight when French leaker j0nathan backed it up, noting he had heard something similar from a contact as far back as 2023 — and went a step further by suggesting the project is likely a remake of the original Assassin's Creed, released in 2007. GameRant The reasoning behind that choice is hard to argue with. The original game is widely considered the most logical candidate for a full remake, with repetitive mission design, basic combat mechanics, and less refined controls making it the mainline entry most in need of a complete overhaul. GamingHQ There is also a commercial argument that's difficult to ignore: the original Assassin's Creed is the only title from the HD era that has never received a dedicated release on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, giving a potential remake both a preservation value and an obvious appeal to an entire generation that never experienced the start of the franchise. EGW.News The timing adds another layer to the speculation. November 2027 marks the 20th anniversary of both the game and the franchise as a whole — a launch window with strong symbolic weight that would place the remake roughly 16 months after Black Flag Resynced. EGW.News The key caveat, however, is that Ubisoft has confirmed nothing. Henderson himself references the Splinter Cell remake, which spent six to seven years in development hell, as a reminder that having something in early stages and actually shipping it are two very different things. TheGamer Everything hinges, first and foremost, on how well Black Flag Resynced performs commercially. A strong launch gives Ubisoft the argument to push forward. A disappointment could quietly shelve the plans. For now, what exists are two well-regarded leakers pointing in the same direction and an anniversary date that feels almost too perfect to be a coincidence.
